Today’s Scripture: Colossians 3:1-17 (How’s that for a light read?)
Today’s Reading:
Colossians 3 encourages us to set our minds on God and not on earthly things, which cause our toxic thoughts. One of the best ways to start focusing your thoughts on God is to spend more time with Him each day in prayer and in the reading of His Word.

2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.
Colossians starts out by talking about our ethics. To “set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth”. What are our ethics? The things that we’re passionate about, that matter to us. What gets us fired up, and what makes us so angry we can barely see straight. These are our core ethics. Our ethics are the driving force, the “why” behind our morals. To see ourselves in our true light, to assess our actions, thought word and deed, we must look at our ethics.
Ethics > set of principles that are the driving force behind our Morals
Morals > the tools we use to live our life by
The 10 Commandments are ethics. How we live according to the 10 commandments are our morals.
If we asses our ethics, and realign them with that of Christ, the morals we act out upon will change. It’s the root of the symptom, our foundation.
Love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, and mind…. if only I could get this one down LORD, the rest would be so easy.
5 Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.6 For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience,7 and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them.
And in them you also once walked. I love how this isn’t up for debate, just there. Just like it is. For in immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, greed,.. which amounts to idolatry. I walked in these. I walk in these.. daily, because I am an idolator. I idolize things, people, ideas, myself and my desires more than God.
May I put no other gods before you.
8 But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.9 Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices,10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him-
Put them aside. Lay them down. From toxic thoughts to the acting out evil practices from them.
Put on the new self, that is being renewed. Daily. Lord give me patience with myself.
Being renewed to a true knowledge, the wisdom and discernment that only comes from the LORD.
Letting the LORD be our creator, and seeing ourselves as his creation.
Letting the LORD be our creator, and seeing ourselves as his creation.
