Today’s Reading:
Our words are powerful. They have the power to kill and the power to give life. Throughout the book of Proverbs, Solomon often writes about the dangers and the life-giving abilities of our words. He was very aware of the power of words. As a result, Solomon encourages us all to be aware of the types of words we speak to others and the positive and negative affects they can have.
What types of words do you tend to speak most – toxic or life-giving? Explain.
What words have been spoken over me in my life? Immediately the negative ones rise to the surface. I’m certain the positive outweigh the negative, but one bad thing unravel so much good that is being done. And we bond over the things we think and believe. And we bond over negative experiences. We find someone with a mutual understanding and spiral into a whirlwind of negative affirmation.
Why do we do this to ourselves? This negative bonding creates such a false sense of intimacy in ‘friendship’ and can lead to so much heartache and drama. Of course your friendships are people you walk through hard times with and that can cause a stronger bond but that initial bond over negative is usually the beginning of a heavy/unhealthy friendship.
Friends should speak truth over our lies, not join us in our bondage.
I think over some of my relationships in the past that are based all around something negative. A class we hated, and would complain about the teacher, classmates, assignments etc. That fueling of negativity fuels preexisting toxins. Eventually our whole outlook on life becomes toxic. It’s a snowball effect.
The power to kill and the power to give life… not just in thoughts and emotions. In our outlook on life and circumstances; in our relationships.
Is my outlook on life generally positive?
Am I living or surviving?
Are my relationships life giving?
Is my outlook on life generally positive?
Am I living or surviving?
Are my relationships life giving?
These are questions I need to ask myself, and hold myself accountable to.
